BEGINNERS GUIDE TO PLACING A BET
There are three ways to bet on the day; via the TAB or betcha app, via a Self-Service Terminal (SST) or via a Bet & Collect operator. As there will be limited Bet & Collect operators on course, we recommend you download the TAB or betcha app prior to arriving. There will be staff on course to help you with the TAB and betcha apps, and the SST’s.
To bet via a Bet & Collect operator, go to a betting window. There will be a queue if a race is starting soon, so get your bet on early.
What do I say? Just three simple things:
- The number of the race (or just say “the next race” if that’s the one you want)
- The number of the horse (that’s the number on their saddlecloth)
- How much you want to pay for your bet
Bet types to choose from
- Win: Pick a horse to finish first
- Place: Pick a horse to finish first, second or third
- Each Way: This popular bet gives you both a win and place on your pick: eg $1 each way costs $2; $1 for the win bet and $1 for the place bet. If your pick wins, you collect win and place dividends; if it comes second, you collect the place dividend
Easy Bet: If you can’t decide, an Easybet is the simple and easy way to get your selection(s) for the race. By asking the Bet & Collect operator for an “Easybet”, the TAB computer will select your horses.
Got your ticket? Check it! Make sure there’s no mistake or misunderstanding before you leave the operator. The rules are, in the 30 minutes before the race starts, you have 2 minutes to cancel a win, place or quinella bet if a mistake has been made.
What is AML?
AML (Anti-Money Laundering) is a law that the TAB and betcha must follow. If you are betting or collecting to the value of $1,000 or more, you can only do so by having a Punters Pass or TAB/betcha Account. For further information click here.
Can I use the TAB/betcha App?
Yes. Download either the TAB or betcha app before Cup Day and no waiting in queues!
