Board of Directors Nominations

The NZ Metropolitan Trotting Club Inc., trading as Addington Raceway and Events Centre, is proud to be Australasia’s premier harness racing venue.

With a significant private land holding in the city, two joint venture commercial property portfolios, NZ’s leading harness racing programme including IRT NZ Trotting Cup Day, and a 7-day catering operation including SpectatorsBar, we are a significant contributor to the Canterbury economy and community.

Our capable and knowledgeable Board has a well-defined and uniting strategy, with our core purpose “To support and nurture a sustainable harness racing industry in Canterbury and New Zealand”.  In line with our purpose the Board has many objectives they are determined to accomplish and having recently completed a review of our land assets, we are now moving forward with creating a plan to maximize our Clubs’ equity in these assets.  This is an exciting time for our Club, and our Board is seeking to complement its existing skill set and appoint experienced Directors who will add value and play an important role in the sustainability of our Club as we move into our next phase.

Our Board meetings are held monthly, generally on the last Tuesday of the month, at Addington Raceway.  Our meetings focus on quality discussions where a wide range of views can be expressed, and as a multi-faceted organization our meetings are not only focused on harness racing.  While the position is remunerated, no travel costsare reimbursed, and there is the opportunity to attend a range of events on our footprint throughout the year, including IRT NZ Trotting Cup Week.

The Positions

By rotation, two positions come up for election this year.  Incumbents are eligible for re-election at the end of their three-year term however, only one of the two are standing.  Nominations open on Friday 5 August 2022.

We are looking for suitably experienced nominations, securing the following skills between the appointees:

  • Property and commercial development
  • Human resource and change management capability
  • Governance and strategy
  • Technology development
  • Legal expertise

 

Together with the following qualities:

  • Business acumen
  • Strategic thinking skills and the ability to balance commercial success with our community and Club focus
  • A transparent and open communication style, with a collaborative governance approach
  • Sufficient time to dedicate to the role
  • An interest in racing is preferable

The Process

A Board Appointments Panel will review all applications and present the five candidates with the most appropriate skillset for the current / future needs of our Club to the 600-strong membership.

Members of the NZ Metropolitan Trotting Club Inc. who have been financial for the previous two years, and who have applied but not been presented by the Board Appointments Panel, may also stand as candidates.

The membership will complete a vote in early October, with the two successful applicants being announced at the Annual General Meeting held at Addington Raceway on Monday 17 October 2022 at 5:30pm.
