Feature racing may have taken a bow after last Friday’s stunning finale, but the action continues at Addington this week – and one race in particular is well worth your attention.

The Colin Steele Memorial Trot honours the outstanding contribution Colin made to the racing department at Addington, where he worked from the mid-1990s until his passing in 2018. It’s a fitting tribute, and this year’s field does it justice with a line-up full of promising young trotters and genuine form.

Last-start winners Katelin and Dornish Hill head the field, both 3YOs with plenty to offer. Katelin took out the Anne Thomson Series Final at Rangiora against a strong line-up and looks a filly capable of going on with it, while Dornish Hill overcame a tough trip at Addington to break his maiden last start. Also in the mix is impressive 2YO Chocta, who has been sharp at the trials ahead of his racetrack return, the lightly-raced Amistozio – a winner and a runner-up from just two starts – and Time For Victory, who finished third behind Katelin after clearing maidens at Ashburton.
Don’t overlook Major Cyclone (barrier 1) either, who was unlucky on debut at Rangiora and has always suggested he has plenty of ability, or the tenacious Help Me, who staged a remarkable recovery at Timaru last Sunday before being disqualified from fourth.

It’s exactly the kind of race that keeps everyone coming back through the winter months – and we can’t wait to see how it unfolds.
