Friday night’s powerhouse win by Prestigious at Addington was not only a statement performance – it also sealed his place in the $400,000 Renwick Farms Dominion Trot.
The Majestic Son four-year-old eclipsed a top class field in the Group 3 Renwick Farms Trotters Classic, an automatic qualifier for the Group 1 feature.
Such was his performance that he is now fifth in this week’s rankings, up 19 places.
It was Prestigious’ seventh win in just 16 career starts. He is now the seventh favourite with the TAB for the big race on Go Media New Zealand Trotting Cup day on Tuesday November 10, at a $12 quote.
Australian Lovemeto also improved seven places, from 19th to 12th following his win for trainer-driver Chris Svanosio at Melton in Victoria on Saturday night.
The rankings for the New Zealand Cup remain largely unchanged this week though Australian pacer Dangerous and Tact McLeod have swapped places as the scramble to get into the field continues.
The last of the automatic qualifiers for both the Cup and the Dominion will be held at Addington this Friday with the Lamb and Hayward Canterbury Classic and the R D Butt Canterbury Park Trotting Cup.
