The history of the $60,000 Commodore Hotel Superstars Championship suggests the winner goes on to bigger things – and this year’s renewal looks no exception. The field is headed by the outstanding 4YO Marketplace, who resumed with a dazzling win a fortnight ago, taking his overall record to an impressive 12 wins from just 22 starts. On that occasion he defeated race rival American Me, and while he will start a hot favourite again, he faces a considerably stiffer assignment this week. Drawing the coveted barrier one, he will need to be at his best with last year’s Junior Free-For-All winner Franco Sinatra (2), stablemate Mo’unga (3), and the up-and-coming 5YOs Sideshow Bruce and It’s Tough all lining up against him. Sideshow Bruce is only second-up this campaign but could not have been more impressive on return, winning by almost five lengths, while It’s Tough has been beaten just once in his last five starts – and that was behind the brilliant Got The Chocolates.
The Woodlands Weanlings Sale Open Day 9th May Handicap Trot shapes as a race in two, with the very impressive first-up winner Donna’s Boy taking on Prestigious, who returns off a close second behind Fiery Bandito at Diamonds Day.
