To ensure the safety of all participants, visitors, and horses, anyone accessing the IRT Stables or the Presentation Area must complete this process before race day.
Please watch the Safety Video carefully and read both the Stable Access Policy and the Presentation Area Race Meeting Operation Policy. These resources explain how to stay safe in busy working areas, where to walk, and what to do if your horse wins.
Once completed, you’ll be asked to confirm your understanding and agreement by selecting “Yes, I agree.” Your cooperation helps us maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone on course.
The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club (Addington), t/a Addington Raceway and Event Centre, is committed to providing a safe facility for guests by ensuring that Health and Safety legislation is complied with at all times. Our staff work hard to reduce the risk of accident or injury but are unable to eliminate all the risks involved when participating in racing activities associated with horses.
STABLES ACCESS IS RESTRICTED
The Stables and the adjoining Float Park (The Stables) are a workplace and contain horses, vehicles and equipment which could cause injury if not handled correctly. As a result, access to The Stables at Addington Raceway is restricted.
ACCESS to The Stables is limited to:
- HRNZ Licence holders (trainers, drivers, stablehands)
- Owners who hold a valid Owner’s Card. It is a condition of obtaining an Owner’s Card that the Owner certifies that they have read this policy.
- Addington Raceway officials (including staff), approved contractors, staff of the Racing Integrity Board (RIB) and staff and contractors of Entain.
- Children aged 6 – 14 years old that have passed the Stabling Area Awareness Course (SAAC) and are under the supervision of an HRNZ Licence holder, an owner who holds a valid Owner’s card or an Addington official.
- Individuals who hold a valid Stables Access Pass that has been obtained from the race day reception desk and are under the supervision of an HRNZ Licence holder, or an Addington official. The supervisor will remind the individual that they are entering a horse containment area and to be aware of horses and drivers at all times and to remain in the designated areas. Any escorted group must be limited to a maximum of six Stables Access Pass holders.
Identification (eg Licence, Card or Pass) must be presented to security on entry to The Stables if requested.
All internal directional and restriction signage must be adhered to within The Stables and non-HRNZ Licence holders must always remain in the clearly designated areas. Only HRNZ Licence holders may handle horses in the Stables.
There is NO PERMISSION to enter the IRT Stables to:
- Members of the general public, other than as described above.
- Pushchairs / strollers, people on crutches, in wheelchairs without an attendant, and others with restricted mobility.
- Those under the influence of alcohol or drugs. No alcohol or drugs are allowed in The Stables.
- Access to The Stables will be refused to all individuals while horses and accompanying drivers are entering the stables from the track after a race. The only exception will be granted to Trainers or Trainers Representatives who had a horse engaged in the race.
All accidents, incidents or near misses to people, equipment or property in The Stables are to be reported as soon as possible to the RIB Stable Steward and the Racing Secretary.
A First Aid Kit is located in the Numbers Room.
Addington is not responsible, and accepts no liability for any loss, theft or damage to possessions resulting from accessing The Stables.
Security personnel will be situated at the pedestrian entrances to The Stables enforcing this Policy. Failure to follow their directions or attempts to access The Stables in breach of this Policy may result in your removal from Addington Raceway.
If you have any concerns or queries regarding access to The Stables, please contact the race day reception desk or the Racing Secretary.
On the completion of any race, the winning horse is brought into the Presentation Area for a photo opportunity with Owners,
Sponsors and/or a presentation of a trophy or dress rug. To ensure any Health and Safety issues with this traditional
procedure are minimised, accepting they cannot be eliminated completely, the following Policy has been adopted.
- Once a race has finished the successful Owner(s)/sponsors, if in attendance, shall be greeted as they arrive at the
entrance to the Presentation Area by the Club Official. All glassware and umbrellas must be left behind the yellow
line. - Once Sponsors, Owners and Addington representatives are on the stage, the winning horse will enter the South/West
gate of the Presentation Area under the control of an experienced Club Official. The Driver will remain in the sulky and
in ultimate control of the horse while in the Presentation Area. The only exception is where connections of the horse
are current HRNZ license holders. In this case they may be present with the horse in the Presentation Area. - The Club Official will remain with the horse until it exits through the North/East gate of the Presentation Area to return
to The Stables at the completion of the ceremony. - No-one is to enter the Presentation Area once the horse has entered, unless requested by the Club Official.
- Once the photo/presentation is complete, the Owner(s), Sponsor(s) and Club Officials will wait for the horse to be
escorted out of the Presentation Area before leaving. - All Club Officials and the Photographer(s) who frequent the Presentation Area are required to attend an induction
course on an annual basis to understand the Health and Safety protocols of the venue. - When a dress rug is presented, this will not be placed on the horse but instead displayed in front of the
connections/horse in the photo, and then handed to the Owner(s). The exception to this arrangement will be Group
One races on both Cup and Show Day where the winner will be rugged on the track before entering the Presentation
Area, or in the Presentation Area. Any other races during the season is at the discretion of the Racing Manager. - The Committee of all Tenant Clubs are to be inducted into this Policy by the Racing Secretary on the day.
