A seven per cent increase in off course turnover on the recent Christchurch Casino New Zealand Trotting Cup Meeting has delighted Addington Raceway officials. For only the second time ever, off course turnover on New Zealand’s biggest racemeeting surpassed the magical $4million mark with actual turnover of $4,051,000 representing a 7% increase on the last years $3,785,000.

In the fashion stakes, there were 30 per cent more entrants in the men's and women's competitions this year. About 400 people paraded in their finery, with judges
saying the prevalence of bright colours was a recession antidote.
Mother-of-three Cindy Randall remodelled a pink and orange bridesmaid's dress she wore eight years ago to be the best-dressed woman.
Sam Britten, son of the late motorcycle designer and inventor John Britten, won best-dressed man in a fawn suit and teal shirt.

Race favourite Kotare Mach raced above himself after being sent to the lead by co-trainer and driver Mark Purdon and fainted badly from the 400m point.

Speculate capped a tremendous spring with a big win in the Seelite Windows & Doors Trotting FFA. She came from the outside of the second row. It was an audacious but brilliant drive from regular hoop Justin Smith who followed the speed through from the second line, as best he could before launching the rugged Sundon mare. She took control of the race 1700 metres from home and despite being hotly challenged by Running On Time and latterly Real Deal Yankee, Speculate held tough.

He may have been pulled out of the NZ Cup due to his standing start manners, but the champ gave the thousands of patrons that packed Addington Raceway on Tuesday a huge thrill with a dominant front-running display, which ended in him recorded a new national standard for the 1950 metres.

In his third Cup attempt, Monkey King has finally taken out the most prestigious harness race in New Zealand, the Christchurch Casino NZ Trotting Cup. It was a spectacular run home for the seven-year-old as thousands of people cheered him along at a packed out Addington Raceway.
